Ford Expedition

About the Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition sets the bar for the full-size SUV segment, thanks to its incredible capability in every area. It comfortably seats 8, has more cargo space than you’ll know what to do with, has a towing capacity that many pickups can’t match, and is tough enough to handle offroading. Lightweight aluminum construction and a seriously powerful twin-turbo V6 make the Expedition surprisingly quick. Thanks to standard features like tri-zone climate control, it’s easy to stay comfortable. This is even true of third-row passengers, who have a lot more space than they would in most three-row SUVs, especially in the available Explorer MAX configuration, which adds nearly a foot to the length of the vehicle, and allows for even more cargo space. SYNC® 4 comes standard, along with a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, but SYNC® 4A and a 15.5-inch touchscreen are available, and either way, the system is compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration.

What the Critics Say

"Yes, the Ford Expedition is a very good large SUV, and its performance score is among the best in the class. This Ford’s twin-turbo V6 engine has ample muscle and more than holds its own against rivals’ V8 engines. The Expedition also has composed handling for a vehicle of its size." — U.S. News & World Report

"The same goes for its ride and handling—with its aluminum body reducing weight, you don't really feel like you're driving something that huge. Our Expedition XLT test vehicle felt planted even when driven on tight corners, with the steering feeling precisely balanced while delivering the right amount of feedback." — MotorTrend

Ford Expedition Features

Ford Expedition Towing

Class-Leading Performance

Full-size SUVs are often called on to perform a wide variety of tasks, and for one to be truly successful, it has to offer a lot of capability. Fortunately, the Expedition is an incredibly versatile vehicle. It is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost® V6 with a 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. In its standard configuration, this engine produces 380 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. In the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, it is tuned for 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. And when equipped with the Limited Stealth Performance package, the engine is swapped out for a high-output version with the same 3.5-liter displacement. This version makes 440 horsepower and a massive 510 lb-ft of torque. 4-wheel drive is offered across the trim lineup, and is standard on certain trims. The Expedition has an incredible maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds, thanks to the available Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package and AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™. There is even a dedicated offroad trim, the Timberline, which comes with some serious offroad standard equipment.

Ford Expedition Interior

Luxurious Interior

With so much space to work with, Ford was able to create a luxury interior that will keep even third-row passengers happy. That’s because the 40.9 inches of third-row legroom is unbeatable by any of the Expedition’s competitors. The available Panoramic Vista Roof® and Zone Lighting mean that the light inside the vast Expedition interior is both plentiful and customizable. And the tri-zone climate control with available second- and third-row controls means that the temperature is just as adjustable. The available B&O® Unleashed Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® features 22 speakers, including a subwoofer, and provides an unbeatable listening experience. Heated and ventilated front seats keep the driver and front passenger happy, while heated second-row captain’s chairs are available as well. There are also 6 charging ports, 15 cupholders, and a massive 104.6 cubic feet of max cargo space, 121.5 cubic feet if you opt for the MAX.

Ford Expedition SYNC 4 Infotainment

Cutting-Edge Technology

One area where the Expedition has a definite edge over the competition is technology. Not only does the advanced engine technology provide more power while consuming less fuel than ever before, but the tech inside the cabin is just as impressive. The standard 12-inch central infotainment touchscreen is bigger than the optional bigger screens in most vehicles, and the available 15.5-inch screen makes operating the SYNC® 4 system easy. And the system is of course compatible with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. FordPass™ Connect gives you a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, so everyone can connect their devices to the internet. There is also an available Dual-Headrest Rear Seat Entertainment System with Amazon Fire TV, which can keep second-row passengers entertained with shows, movies, or music on long trips. And for the front row, there is an available wireless charging pad in the center console.

Ford Expedition Safety

Superb Safety

Technology helps to keep you safe in the Expedition as well, with advanced design and driver-assistance tech being implemented for the sake of everyone in your vehicle. The standard Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite of safety technology includes features like BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). Rear parking sensors help prevent low-speed collisions, with the available Active Park Assist 2.0 System on hand to park the vehicle for you, should you encounter an especially tricky spot. The Expedition is also available with BlueCruise, a hands-free cruise control system, that lets you relax while the Expedition handles everything, a major advantage in combating driving fatigue.
