Ford F-150 Hybrid vs. Gas vs. EcoBoost®

The five different powertrain options for the F-150 come in three different configurations, conventional gasoline, EcoBoost, and hybrid. All of these use gasoline engines, and therefore the basics of how they operate are basically the same, but there are some important differences. With conventional gasoline engines, a big advantage is that they are relatively uncomplicated, which keeps prices down. That’s how Ford is able to offer a big 5.0-liter V8 without it being prohibitively expensive. The difference that sets EcoBoost engines apart is the use of advanced turbocharging technology. This is how Ford is able to use smaller engines to make more power. Turbochargers compress the intake air, making for more powerful combustion without needing to increase the engine size.

The 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6 hybrid takes the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and adds a hybrid drivetrain to the equation.
